Fish Stories Catalogue
Vendor: Cape Ann Museum Store
By Cape Ann Historical Society
A catalogue on the exhibit Fish Stories that ran August 16 through November 30, 1991. Containing images and descriptions of maritime folk art of Cape Ann from the Fish Stories exhibit with essays about the artists.
Two of the essential ingredients of Cape Ann's history are fish and art. Reflecting this eclectic mixture, the Cape Ann Historical Association continues to maintain a dual emphasis on both the arts and the fisheries.
In most cases, the arts and fisheries of Cape Ann have remained separate. They have rubbed elbows for years, however, in the folk art of the area.
The folk art chosen for this exhibition is as varied as the geography and people of Cape Ann. While the medium, scale and specific subject change from object to object, all of the work shares a maritime theme. This theme evolved naturally out of the folk artists' lives.
